The proposal was... for lack of a better
word... interesting. I wanted to ask Megan to marry me for few
months before I actually did. Unfortunately, because Megan and I
are Catholic, she had to complete her annulment process before I
could do any such thing. But a letter came and all things were good
to go for us. I then proceeded to do the 'honorable' thing and
asked her parents if I could marry their daughter. You won't
believe how hard that seemed to do, but I wanted to make sure I was
accepted. Her mom said yes, pretty much right away, but her dad had
to give me grief and hesitated, then said "I guess so". I then made
arrangements to go get Megan a ring. One time I had to LIE... yup,
I'm starting to lie already. But, hold on, it was for a good
reason. See, one of her Sandette girls was driving home.
Unfortunately, for me, I was going in the same direction going to
get her ring. Guess what, I was ratted out the next day and when
Megan saw me that afternoon, she asked about it. I had to deny all
of it. She believed me (sucker!).
The proposal plan was this... I was to get up on stage and talk about the Spring Show program that I had made. Course, Megan didn't want me to do that. She said it would make the show last that much longer and she just wanted to get it done quickly. This was a problem because at the end of that speech I was going to propose to her on stage in front of everybody attending the show. I was upset. This was the only way I could make a lasting impression and I felt it was going to go away. So, I became confrontational. This didn't exactly go over well and so we kind of went round and round (pre-marital spat). I finally won (though she hated it). And the plans went on as they were supposed to.
At the beginning of the show, my heart is just racing. I knew in about 2 hours I was going to do something very big (duh!). In my head I was thinking, "what if she says no... in front of all these people?" That's all I could think about. At intermission, Megan's dad was joking with me. I think he thought I was going to choke and not do it.
Well, the end of the show came and Megan was handing out awards and speaking about other things. I was pretty much a wreck with my nerves. I managed to make my way up on the stage and do my thing. I talked about the program like I planned. Course, I dropped the stupid thing (showing off my nervousness). I then turned towards Megan and said "I have to make an apology... my ad [in the program] to Megan isn't correct." I'm now reaching in my pocket for the ring and half of the Sandettes are going hysterical with cheers. I got down on one knee and said, "Megan, will you marry me?!?"
