HISTORY

The Victoria Dog Obedience Club (VDOC) was
founded on June
25, 1981.
- American
Kennel Club (AKC)
Obedience Matches began in March of 1982.
-
First Spring and Fall
Obedience Classes
began in March 1982.
-
In October of 1984, VDOC began a spay-neuter program in
Victoria, known today as
P.A.W.S., Pets
Are Worth Saving.
-
Approval came in 1986 from AKC to hold our first sanctioned
obedience match
.
-
VDOC became a 501(c)(4)
non-profit
organization in 1986
-
Pets with Santa
became an annual fundraiser in 1986.
-
VDOC officially holds it first
Sanctioned Obedience
Trial in 1989.
-
The AKC introduced the
Canine Good Citizen Test
(CGC) in 1992. VDOC members were on the ground floor giving input to perfect
the test of what it is today.

Club members volunteered at the local rescue facility, caring
for over 150 animals locating rescue groups and raising money for the
efforts during the
floods of 1998.
ACTIVITIES
-
The VDOC hosts 11
meetings
annually which involve other members that share the same interest.

During the Month of December in leu of a meeting the VDOC
offers Pets with Santa
to the General Public as an annual fundraiser.

An annual 2 day Sanctioned
Obedience Trial
is held once a year bringing in owners and there dogs from all over the
State of Texas and surrounding states.

The CGC
is offered at the completion of each obedience class for students and
members.

Schedule an annual
Awards Banquet
for active involvement with club activities for members and their dogs.
PURPOSE
-
Host
seminars on obedience, behavior and dog-related subjects.

Keep cost
down on obedience classes so that all member of our
community can afford to attend for the social welfare of our canine
friends..

Beneficiaries of our fundraising activities
include local charities such as Adopt-a-Pet, Six Flags Humane Society now
Dorothy O'Conner Humane Society, P.A.W.S.(Pets Are Worth Saving) and the
City of Victoria/Victoria County Animal Control which are active within our
community.

Offer the
Canine Good Citizen testing
as a way to educate members and our students about being a good member of
our community.

Offer
obedience trials annually under the regulations of the
American Kennel Club, attracting competitors throughout Texas and
surrounding states.

Provide
support, information, and training which helps ensure a long
and loving relationship between owners and dogs through obedience training.

Retain the
best instructors
to teach VDOC obedience classes, socializing, problem solving and promoting
responsible dog ownership by utilizing up to date training methods and
positive motivational methods.

Stress the
importance of spay and neuter
programs to reduce the population of unwanted pets which are homeless or in
shelters.

The VDOC is a
non-profit organization
and our Constitution prohibits any member from profiting from VDOC funds.

Club members are active in
venues such as
obedience, agility, tracking, therapy & conformation.
MEETINGS
-
General
meetings are held the
3rd Wednesday of
each month except in December.
-
Meetings are held in the
Victoria Mall Food Court
in Front of Sears.
-
The meetings begin at
7:00 PM. Mall
policy does not allow us to bring our dogs to these meetings.

Membership
dues are $10.00
per member or $15.00 for family.
-
Due to programs, every now and then there will be a change
in location or cancellation of a meeting. If you plan to attend please
contact someone within the club in advance. Guests are always welcome!!
