Provides emergency reporting and communication to Calhoun County residents and military personnel. An ongoing program of disaster preparedness with education, training, emergency mass care and direct assistance to families with urgent needs. Training offered in aquatics, CPR, first aid, and HIV/AIDS education.

Serves 450 young people ages 6-20 in Calhoun County. The Boy Scout mission is to develop character, strengthen the body and mind, teach citizenship and instill values to prepare young people to make ethical choices during their lifetime in achieving their full potential.

Serves over 148 girls ages 5-17 and 37 volunteers in Calhoun County. Offers contemporary, informal educational program opportunities to enhance girls' capabilities by teaching basic decision making, interpersonal and self-enrichment skills.

Calhoun County Extension Office Web Site
Reaches over 2,000 Calhoun youth through participation in organized 4-H clubs, 4-H school enrichment programs and 4-H special interest groups. The program is coordinated by Calhoun County Extension Services with help from over 145 volunteers.

Calhoun County Community Ministries -- (361)552-1722

Provides emergency assistance to those who are in need of shelter, food, clothing, housing, medication and transportation; and assistance with rent, eviction and utilities through a grant from FEMA. Over 1,200 Calhoun County families were assisted last year.

Calhoun County Senior Citizens Association -- (361)552-3350
Provides transportation, telephone reassurance, food distribution, homemaker aid, emergency response and social programs to keep approximately 800 area senior citizens active, involved and living independently in their homes.

YMCA of the Golden Crescent Web Site
The YMCA offers a variety of summer camps, child care, sports, aquatics and fitness programs for youth, teens and families. The YMCA is dedicated to providing programs that build strong kids, strong families and strong communities.

Child Study Clinic -- (361)-575-0681

Provides medical services to children with special health care needs that are family centered, community based and culturally competent. This is achieved by working in a supportive partnership with medical, educational an psycho-social services so that total quality services are provided to all children with a need.

The Harbor Children's Alliance and Victim's Center -- (361)552-1982

The Harbor provides 24-hour assistance to child abuse victims, domestic violence victims and their children and sexual assault survivors. Crisis counseling/intervention, legal advocacy referrals to community agencies and agency accompaniment are provided. Promotes children's projects, assists those less fortunate with Christmas gifts, medication, school supplies, etc.

Services provided: substance abuse screenings, assessments, referrals, placement and follow-up; brief counseling and legal assistance for victims of domestic violence; rental assistance and case management for the homeless; shelter for domestic violence victims and the homeless; educational programs relating to addictions and domestic violence.

oyment along with educational enhancement.  Both Calhoun High School and Travis Jr. High have onsite counselors.

Provides mental health services for the uninsured population.  Services include: screening and assessment, case management, psychiatric medical, psychiatric evaluation and benefit assessment/procurement.  A licensed psychiatrist will perform psychiatric evaluations, determine if and what medication to be prescribed and monitor the effects.  Services offered are: Skills training, residential programs and crisis response.
